illThis course provides practical guidance on understanding the issues and responses to forest governance and illegal logging issues.

Through a combination of presentations, discussions and workshops we provide you with the information needed to understand the nature, scale and causes of forest governance weaknesses and illegal logging, and the practical and institutional responses.

You will gain an understanding of the current scale of the problem, the causes of illegal logging on a regional basis, and the regional and international efforts underway to address the problem.
There will be a specific focus on FLEGT processes and the EU VPA progress.

We will also provide an overview of the various verification initiatives that have been developed, and explain how these can be linked to responsible business through good supply chain management.

Outcomes

On completing this course, you will understand the issues surrounding forest governance, including FLEGT processes, and will be in a position to deliver a responsible purchasing response to the issues.
