Understanding forest certification

This course looks at the development of forest management standards and the process of forest certification. It explains the major components of forest certification schemes, including governance, accreditation, certification, standards and the standard-setting process. It also considers the auditing process, and highlights the importance of stakeholder engagement and consultation to meeting social and environmental standards.
You will also be introduced to non-certification initiatives, and step-wise processes for meeting standards, and the importance of traceability and supply chain management when dealing with certified products will be discussed.
Presented modules are combined with group work and plenary discussion to maximise opportunities for shared learning.
Outcomes
By the end of the course you will be familiar with the requirements of forest certification schemes and the basics of auditing and certification.
