Identifying and managing high conservation values (HCVs) within natural resource production systems
Oxford, United Kingdom 24-25 July
This course examines in detail the practical application of the HCV concept for forest certification and for sustainable management of other natural resources such as oil palm. We will consider the history and development of the concept alongside other conservation approaches, and review the process and methodologies for identifying, managing and monitoring HCVs, for different applications, in a range of national contexts.
We will present actual case studies which illustrate the benefits and challenges of applying the HCV approach in contrasting situations, including for forestry in temperate and tropical climates, and for agricultural commodity plantations. Workshops and discussions will provide an opportunity to explore appropriate processes and necessary safeguards for applying the HCV approach across the wide range of situations in which it is now being used.
Outcomes
By the end of the course you will have a broad understanding of the
HCV concept and its implementation
