ProForest specialises in the design and implementation of sustainability requirements. We work with governments, private sector and NGOs with a particular focus on turning policy into practice. Our work includes:

• The development of international policy in areas such as illegal logging or responsible land use planning

• The development of voluntary initiatives and environmental certification schemes, and

• The practical implementation of these requirements on the ground

Sustainable solutions usually involve the engagement of diverse stakeholders in a process of development and change. We have extensive experience in the facilitation of multi-stakeholder processes and in turning the outputs from these processes into practical policy. Our in-depth and up-to-date knowledge of these policies ensures that our work for individual companies and organisations is set within an appropriate framework. At the same time, this on-the-ground work enables us to bring a wealth of current practical experience to policy development processes and debates.

The ProForest team is international, multilingual and has a broad variety of backgrounds, ranging from industry and academia to NGOs. This allows us to work comfortably in many types of organisations and cultures. We have an in-house knowledge of more than 20 languages, including Mandarin, Spanish, Portuguese, French and Bahasa Malaysia. All team members have higher degrees in natural resource management or biological sciences, and at least five years of experience in the natural resource sector.

A project manager provides clients with a point of contact, but delivery is usually through a team-based approach, utilising the skills of several people. We also undertake many projects in partnership with other organisations. We are particularly interested in projects which involve building capacity in local partners, allowing them to continue the work after our direct involvement.

ProForest was established in 2000. Our expertise covers all aspects of the natural resource sector, from agricultural commodities and forestry to conservation, supply chain management and responsible investment. We have worked in over 40 countries worldwide, working for and collaborating with more than 100 clients, including governments, international organisations, NGOs and private companies from multinationals to local cooperatives.
