We work at all levels – from international policy and legislation to practical operations on the ground – to support the development and implementation of workable environmental and social standards and safeguards. Our focus areas include the forestry and timber sectors, agricultural commodities, REDD+ and climate change issues, and identification and management of High Conservation Values.
Our programmes are delivered through two entities. The Proforest Initiative (a registered charity) provides support to sustainability initiatives, collaborates in research and policy development, and offers training and capacity building for governments, communities and NGOs.
Our Consultancy Services help businesses including growers, producers and processors, through to purchasers and investors to achieve pragmatic solutions that balance the growing demand for natural resources with their own objectives to be socially and environmentally responsible business leaders.
Proforest’s Consultancy Services and the Proforest Initiative are separate entities under the Proforest umbrella. However, the practical experience we gain through our consultancy services is crucial in ensuring that the Proforest Initiative’s work is grounded in reality.
Proforest has a truly global outlook. Our multicultural team comprises 18 different nationalities, bringing an in-house knowledge of 20 languages. Team members are drawn from a wide range of backgrounds including forestry, anthropology, agriculture, economics and ecology, and have previous experience in industry, government, research and non-governmental organisations. This diversity enriches our vision and brings a diversity of views to bear on any issue.
