International Multi-Stakeholder Processes Conference

This year ProForest celebrates its 10th anniversary. As part of these celebrations ProForest will convene a conference on International Multi-Stakeholder Processes in Natural Resource Management. The conference will be convened in cooperation with the Environmental Change Institute of the University of Oxford and the Rainforest Alliance, and will take place in Oxford, UK on Tuesday 14th September 2010.

This conference will bring together representatives from a range of constituencies, sectors and regions worldwide to discuss experiences and challenges and to generate ideas for undertaking meaningful and practical multi-stakeholder processes in resource management and land-use planning at all levels including national, regional and international levels.

Over the past decade multi-stakeholder processes have been increasingly used to seek international agreements on standards, policies and practices for natural resource management. Among the best known examples are international agriculture, forestry, and fisheries certification schemes, EU forest law and governance processes and round-tables on biofuels, agricultural commodities, REDD and conservation planning. Much of this has been ground-breaking work, with successes and pitfalls along the way.

This event presents a unique opportunity to reflect on what has been learned from these processes, and to seek practical solutions to common remaining challenges.

A great event for governments, policy makers, academics, industry leaders, NGOs, forestry and agricultural producers, and process facilitators. The conference is open to all, but places are limited. Registration for this conference is now closed. Pleas contact Anna Cura (anna@proforest.net) if you have any queries.
