This website provides online information and advice on meeting the UK Government’s Timber Procurement Policy. CPET is funded by the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, and is operated by ProForest, an independent company with wide experience in responsible purchasing.

In addition, background information is available on how these practical solutions were developed, including the types of evidence that demonstrate legality and sustainability and the criteria for evaluating such evidence.

CPET Announcement on Malaysian Timber Certification Scheme

CPET is pleased to learn of the endorsement of the Malaysian Timber Certification Scheme (MTCS) by the Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification Schemes (PEFC) and the progress made to date.  It is important to note that PEFC’s endorsement of the MTCS relates to revised scheme requirements which have not yet been fully implemented. Recognition of the MTCS by both PEFC and CPET is conditional on the full implementation of these revised requirements. Read more.

New UK Government Policy from April 1st 2009

Recycled timber

The UK Government's timber procurement policy previously required its departments to actively seek to purchase legal and sustainable timber and timber product. This changed on April 1 2009 and the policy now demands that all timber and wood-derived products must be from independently verifiable legal and sustainable sources or FLEGT-licensed timber or equivalent only.  Read more.

New Awareness Campaign

Soléne le Doze joined the CPET team in January 2009 as the awareness coordinator for the UK Government’s sustainable timber procurement policy.  Read more.
