CPET Activities
July 2007
July started off with a splash, with the launch of the consultation on the 5th. The change in Prime Minister also meant a cabinet shuffle, and a new Minister for the timber procurement policy.
We attended the bi-annual Illegal logging update at Chatham House, where over the course of two days, updates were given from around the world about progress being made on the issue. This was closely followed by a meeting on the results of a study on Local Authorities, as researched and presented by Chatham House fellow Duncan Brack.
We also met with a legality verification programme to discuss details of assessment process, and identified a couple more programmes for potential use as Category B evidence. We also met with a Government Agency to discuss the Category B evidence provided by one of their suppliers.
In addition to braving the floodwaters of Oxford, we continued to work on the construction pilot study, with ongoing visits with construction companies. We are now looking towards the 4th of September, when the next Technical Review Group meeting will be held in London.
Finally, we have started to plan the third annual round of Regional Workshops, which we will run in the autumn.
