CPET Activities
September 2007
The month of September has been a very busy one, with both the new policy consultation period finishing and the construction pilot study visits coming to an end.
As part of the new policy consultation separate, facilitated, meetings were held with the trade and NGO’s. We had some lively discussions but also some good ideas were put forward to help implement the new policy. Over the next few months we will consider these more carefully and discuss recommendations with the reference board and Defra. Our plan is to have advice and guidance available by the beginning of 2008.
Our mission in terms of the construction pilot work has been one of fact finding, to consider solutions. Over the last few months we have visited sites and spoken to the major construction companies, as well as the government departments. With these visits now concluded we are in the process of putting together our solutions and recommendations for Defra. As part of this, our preliminary findings and proposals for solutions were presented to the Technical Review Group on the 4th September. The meeting was positive, invoked much discussion, but in general our draft proposals were well-received.
The work of CPET is increasingly beginning to disseminate; Sofie visited Ireland, Raich spoke to the Wood for Gold meeting and we also did a presentation to the Construction Federation Environmental Forum.
Our regional workshops are in the process of being finalised and we have growing numbers of requests for further training sessions. Please contact us for further information.
