The central point of expertise
for timber procurement

Document Actions

Methodology

CPET selected and visited construction projects across Government departments and assessed how the timber procurement policy was implemented on the ground.

Approximately 10 contracts where selected representing:

§         completed and ongoing construction projects

§         new builds and refurbishment projects

§         different departments and their facilities managers  using OGCs list of major construction and refurbishment projects to ID projects

Visits by CPET to the selected Government estate construction projects where structured to include a preliminary discussion and follow up visits with key personnel involved in timber procurement and also included contract development and management, support and advice. In addition follow up visits involved facility managers, if they are involved in the procurement of timber products.

The aim of the discussion was to establish:

·     Whether the policy was reflected in the contract

·     What measures were in place to implement the timber procurement policy requirements throughout the subcontracting chain

·     What information on timber quantities and sustainability could be made available for a report, if required, and the time and resources required to compile it.

·     What other mechanisms already exist (if any) which could provide the same or similar information.
