The RSPO Africa Roadshow

Large scale oil palm expansion in Africa is at an early stage. While oil palm development has the potential to deliver many socio-economic benefits, there are also potential environmental and social risks. The RSPO Africa Roadshow is a programme that aims to build capacity and raise awareness on sustainable palm oil among key stakeholders in Africa.

With various partners | 2012—2013

The RSPO Africa Roadshow aimed to significantly increase the level of understanding of the requirements of the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO) among key stakeholders, including government institutions, civil society and the local private sector.

A series of awareness raising and capacity building events took place in Ghana, Gabon, Cameroon and Liberia in May, June and July 2012, with three more events in 2013. We produced a series of briefing notes on specific topics, including the RSPO certification process and High Conservation Values. These briefing notes are available in French and English.

The RSPO roadshow was coordinated Proforest working together with an alliance of partners including the RSPO, Conservation International, Solidaridad, WWF, the HCV Resource Network, ZSL, and GIZ. Funding has been provided by the Biodiversity and Agricultural Commodities Programme, with additional support from Sime Darby, Olam International and Unilever.
