Responsible Production and Sourcing of Agricultural Commodities

A 5-day course addressing key sustainability issues related to palm oil, soy and sugarcane and the tools that traders, processors and retailers can use to source responsibly produced commodities.


CORE MODULE (DAYS 1-3) Understanding and managing responsible supply chains for agricultural commodity crops: from standards and certification to supply chain management and purchasing policies. Up-to-date overview of current initiatives to promote sustainable management practices for oil palm, soy and sugar cane • current key issues and drivers • applicable certification schemes and standards • good supply chain management • how to develop and implement a responsible purchasing policy. OPTIONAL MODULE (DAYS 4-5) Day 4: High Conservation Value (HCV) approach Introduction to the practical use of the HCV concept in land management (forests and agriculture) • good practice in identifying, managing and monitoring HCVs • harmonising the HCV approach across forestry, carbon, biofuel and agriculture standards.
