Certification system support for Bonsucro
Bonsucro is a multi-stakeholder initiative dedicated to reducing the environmental and social impacts of sugar cane production. It has developed a certification scheme to recognize well-managed sugarcane production, and to track sustainably produced sugarcane products through the supply chain.Bonsucro | 2011 to 2012
Bonsucro approached The Proforest Initiative for support in consolidating and enhancing a number of components of the certification scheme, and providing a technical backstopping function to the Bonsucro Secretariat.
The Proforest Initiative carried out a review of the core components of the Bonsucro certification system which led to a series of recommendations for enhancing the Bonsucro system, including strengthening and clarifying the certification protocol and chain of custody requirements. In addition to this the Proforest Initiative has further supported the uptake of Bonsucro certification by providing auditor training.
