Assessment, Management & Monitoring of High Conservation Values: A practical guide for forest managers
2008, ProForest
This guide is intended for forest and land managers. It should help those interested in the sustainable management of forests and those committed to certification against the Forest Stewardship Council’s Principles and Criteria for Responsible Forest Management. Good practice guidelines for High Conservation Value assessments: A practical guide for
, , ,
2008, ProForest
This document sets out good practices for the identification and management of High Conservation Values (HCVs), and HCV forests and areas. It provides detailed guidance on the HCV assessment process, and should be of particular use to HCV practitioners involved in planning and conducting such an assessment, and to certifying bodies auditing HCV identification reports and management plans. Particular emphasis is placed on requirements to maintain the robustness and credibility of the process, which should be a priority for forest or land-use managers implementing an HCV management plan. This document will be particularly useful for assessments of large, complex or controversial cases.
Forest Governance and Reduced Emissions from Deforestation and Degradation (REDD)
,
2007, Chatham House Energy, Environment and Development Programme
Presented at the UNFCCC in Bali, December 2007. This paper sets out a number of lessons from ongoing efforts to improve forest governance, which should be considered at both the design and implementation stage of a potential REDD mechanism, and suggests that those countries that improve their forest governance, clarify tenurial arrangements and address illegality are more likely to achieve reduced deforestation and benefit from potential REDD investment than those that do not.
HCVF for conservation practitioners

A Sourcebook for Landscape Analysis of High Conservation Value Forests (Version 1)
,
2003, ProForest
With input from Nigel Dudley and Ketut Deddy. The concept of High Conservation Value Forests (HCVFs) originated as a means to ensure that the most important forest values were correctly managed in the context of Forest Stewardship Council certification, and hence in individual forest management units. The idea has, however, rapidly gained interest and credibility on a wider stage. This sourcebook provides initial guidance to groups who want to conduct and use HCVF analysis at a landscape-scale.
HCVF Toolkit Part 3: Identifying and managing High Conservation Values Forests - a guide for forest managers
, , ,
2003, ProForest
This part of the Toolkit is aimed at forest managers, other land managers, investors, donors, and conservation practitioners who wish to implement HCVF in the absence of a ratified FSC national standard.
