Good practice guidelines for HCV assessments: A guide for practitioners & auditors
, , ,
2008, ProForest
This document sets out good practices for the identification and management of High Conservation Values (HCVs), and HCV forests and areas. It provides detailed guidance on the HCV assessment process, and should be of particular use to HCV practitioners involved in planning and conducting such an assessment, and to certifying bodies auditing HCV identification reports and management plans. Particular emphasis is placed on requirements to maintain the robustness and credibility of the process, which should be a priority for forest or land-use managers implementing an HCV management plan. This document will be particularly useful for assessments of large, complex or controversial cases.

,
2003, Kumarian Press ISBN 1-56549-172-6
The debate about the pros and cons of globalization has become increasingly polarized and yet the voices of the rural poor are seldom heard. This book rises above the fray to examine what is happening at the interface between globalization and producers in the South. The authors illustrate the practical obstacles that farmers face in accessing markets especially with respect to the difficulties of meeting market demands for quality of produce along with quantity and continuity of supply.
Palm Oil, Forests & Sustainability
2003, ProForest
Perceptions of serious, unresolved problems in the oil palm sector have led to increasing concern from a variety of institutions, including local and international NGOs, the regulatory agencies of national governments, donors and other financial institutions. This discussion paper, the first of two written for the Round Table on Sustainable Oil Palm, identifies some of the major issues facing the sustainable cultivation of oil palm. For some of these issues, there is little agreement on the nature of the problem. In other cases, technical solutions exist and the extent to which they are implemented is examined.
Defining sustainability in oil palm production: An analysis of existing sustainable agriculture & oil palm initiatives
2003, ProForest
In this, the second technical discussion paper for the Round Table on Sustainable Oil Palm, information is provided about existing initiatives which seek to define or implement 'sustainability' in some form for oil palm plantations. The paper examines the degree to which these existing initiatives (from both within the oil palm sector and outside) address the key issues of sustainability for oil palm production. Options for defining 'sustainability' and assessing its implementation are discussed.
