Stiffer penalties for illegal logging in Sabah, Malaysia

Amendments to the Forest Enactment 1968 to provide for stiffer penalties against illegal logging activities in the Malaysian state of Sabah are expected to be tabled in the coming State Legislative Assembly sitting. The proposed change was instigated by the State Forest Department.

 

The Chief Minister of Sabah,  Datuk Seri Musa Aman has said that the present penalty of which the maximum fine of RM50,000 (GB £ 7,143) was too small.

Slovenia Forest Certification System (SFCS) endorsed by PEFC
