Update on responsible biofuels
Oxford, United Kingdom 15 July
Course Outline
This course provides an overview of key issues and drivers of responsible sourcing and production of biofuels. We will provide you with up to date information on existing and emerging legislation and policy in Europe, both at the Directive and member state level (including the latest UK policy), as well as around the world, such as in the US and China. We will also discuss some of the key challenges and controversies surrounding biofuels production, including the food vs. fuel debate, and ongoing work on marginal land and responsible cultivation areas.
You will be provided with examples of a variety of biofuel supply chains, and we will consider the implications of complexity for sourcing policies. The role of carbon in the supply chain will also be presented, including opportunities for collecting data.
This course is designed to be the 3rd day of Responsible Sourcing and Production of Agricultural Commodities course, but can also be attended as a stand-alone course.
Outcomes
By the end of the course, participants will be familiar with existing and emerging biofuel legislation and policy. Participants will also have a clear understanding of the current issues and challenges, and will be aware of some of the possible mechanisms to address these as part of a responsible business.
