Responsible sourcing and production of agricultural commodities

Course Outline
This course provides practical guidance on understanding and managing responsible supply chains for agricultural commodity crops. Through a combination of presentations, discussions and workshops you will be provided with the information and techniques needed to develop and successfully implement responsible sourcing policies. This will include developing an understanding of the current key issues and drivers, and practical policy-based responses.
Key issues and challenges related to sustainable field production of agricultural commodities will be explored, including current debates around land use change (e.g. deforestation, indirect effects, carbon). Approaches for managing sustainability within field operations will be discussed, including supplier management and support programmes.
We will provide a detailed and up-to-date overview of the key global initiatives aiming to address unsustainable management practices for oil palm, soy, sugar cane, cotton and other relevant commodity crops, including their requirements for sustainable production, and how these can be linked to responsible business through good supply chain management.
