hcv1This course provides an overview of the HCV concept and its practical use in forest certification and in the sustainable management of other natural resources such as oil palm, soy and other biofuel lifestock. We will consider the history and development of the concept alongside other conservation approaches, and introduce the practical steps needed to identify, manage and monitor HCVs in forests and other ecosystems.

We will present a number of case studies from differing contexts, both tropical and temperate. You will be challenged to think about the implementation of conservation approaches in productive landscapes, and will have the chance to evaluate real-world examples.

Outcomes

By the end of the course you will be familiar with the HCV concept and its implementation in a range of natural resource management settings.
