Boosting capacity for forest management auditing in Cameroon and Ghana

A shortage of qualified lead auditors for recognised standards of responsible forest management is one of the major bottlenecks for improving standards of forest management in West and Central Africa. 

This capacity received a major boost with the recent qualification of 39 new FSC Forest Management or Chain of Custody Lead Auditors in Cameroon and Ghana.

The training sessions, which took place in Accra and Yaounde in May, were jointly delivered by Proforest’s Africa Practitioners’ Network (APN) and the Rainforest Alliance.

All qualified Lead Auditors are now eligible for the APN’s programme of mentoring and practical experience, at operational sites in Cameroon and Ghana. This will be provided by Proforest, in close collaboration with WWF–Cameroon and Rainforest Alliance.  

The APN provides opportunities for people working on social and environmental issues in forestry and agriculture to gain practical field experience to support their development. It is supported with funding from UK Aid.
