Next regional meeting of the Africa Palm Oil Initiative announced
Organised by Proforest on behalf of the TFA 2020 (Tropical Forest Alliance 2020), the Africa Palm Oil Initiative (APOI) meeting will be held at the Kempinski Hotel Gold Coast City, the day after the Africa Implementation Dialogue and the TFA 2020 General Assembly (14-16 May).
The objective of this day-long meeting is to share learning from the APOI experience and build public-private partnerships for responsible oil palm development throughout the region. It will bring together key stakeholders from relevant commodity sectors throughout West and Central Africa, including members of the public and private sectors from the APOI country teams, as well as other stakeholders with an interest and commitment to achieve deforestation-free commodity supply chains.
The Africa Palm Oil Initiative (APOI) is the first signature initiative of TFA 2020, and seeks to help transition the palm oil sector in West and Central Africa to become a sustainable driver of long-term, low-carbon development in a way that is socially beneficial and protects the tropical forests of the region. The APOI countries are now engaging in the implementation phase, identifying targeted opportunities for the sources and finance required to help realise their own national action plans for sustainable palm oil and building their national knowledge base, necessary technical expertise and general capacity.
We advise those requiring an entry clearance visa for Ghana to begin their visa application process as soon as possible to avoid any issues with entrance to the country.
The event is being coordinated by Proforest on behalf of the Tropical Forest Alliance 2020, thanks to financial support from UK DFID through the Partnership for Forests Programme (P4F) and Global Environment Facility (GEF) through WWF US.
