Sustainable Livestock Indicators open for public consultation
This stage of the consultation will run until 20 November and aims to attract comments on the Guidebook from opinion leaders and organisations at all stages of the livestock supply chain.
Proforest has played a key role in developing the Guidebook, which aims to encourage use of the indicators to support sustainability. As well as writing the drafts, designing and managing the development process, we have also facilitated the working group that is developing the text, in line with ISEAL international guidelines for participatory multistakeholder processes. We also conducted field tests on the proposed indicators.
The Guidebook is a self-assessment tool, which allows the user to evaluate their own performance - or that of an organisation within their supply chain.
We want to hear from those who are just beginning the journey towards sustainability to those already seeking to demonstrate achieved results.
The GTPS has made it clear that it will not supervise, endorse, certify or issue any report or label to users of the Indicators, nor will it authorize any user to issue statements or use the GTPS trademark.
GTPS president, Fernando Sampaio, has said: “The intention of this Guidebook is to be inclusive. We want to hear from those who are just beginning the journey towards sustainability to those already seeking to demonstrate achieved results. We are sure that all members in the value chain can become even more sustainable”.
Proforest will collate the responses to the consultation and the Guidebook is expected to be published in mid-2016.
