James Mckeown Parker

James has over 25 years of experience working in natural resources management in Africa and the Caribbean. His work has primarily covered developmental issues related to forestry, wetlands, land use, natural resources conflict management, eco and bio tourism development and forest-dependent livelihoods. James’ experience also covers the research-policy interface, developing and facilitating multi-stakeholder processes, capacity building, project formulation and management and organisational development.

Prior to joining Proforest, he worked with Tropenbos International for ten years as the National Project Coordinator for an EU-sponsored project on developing alternatives for illegal logging and inclusion of domestic market issues into the FLEGT-VPA processes in Ghana, Liberia and Cameroon. He also worked with Ghana Wildlife Society as a project coordinator, the University of Science and Technology as a part-time lecturer and Wetlands International as capacity building consultant in East Africa.   

James holds a master’s degree in Environmental Sciences and a degree in Natural Resources Management.
