Respecting the Rights of Indigenous Peoples and Local Communities
Level: Introductory.
Duration of Course: 2 hours.
This course is designed for people working in the agricultural commodity sector (e.g. in companies, government agencies, NGOs or civil society organisations, etc.) who wish to gain a basic understanding of who IPs and LCs are, their rights, and what they should be doing in their work to ensure these groups' rights are respected.
By the end of this course you should be able to:
- Define IPs and LCs rights
- Explain how IPs and LCs rights are affected by agricultural commodity production
- Explain why it is important for companies and other stakeholders to ensure the rights of IPs and LCs are respected
- Have a basic knowledge of best practice on how to protect and respect IPs and LCs rights in agricultural commodity production and sourcing
This course has recently been updated to include the impacts of Covid-19 on Indigenous Peoples and Local Communities.
