Delivering responsible sourcing in practice: an integrated approach

Many companies within supply chains have made commitments to responsible sourcing of forest and agricultural products. These commitments cover issues such as deforestation, biodiversity loss, water use, land conflicts, community development, human rights, child labour and the treatment of workers.

However, implementing these commitments in practice is often challenging, as they relate to production and many actors in the supply chain have little or no direct contact with producers.

This briefing note presents three key approaches that companies can use: certification, compliance with national legislation, and direct engagement.

This document is part of a series of briefing notes on responsible sourcing and production.
