Official launch of Liberia’s National Oil Palm Strategy and Action Plan – 14th April 2022, Monrovia

Liberia’s Ministry of Agriculture, through a multi-stakeholder platform the National Oil Palm Platform of Liberia (NOPPOL), has developed a national oil palm strategy and action plan to guide sustainable oil palm development in Liberia for the next 5 years (2021-2026). The National Oil Palm Strategy and Action Plan (NOPSAP) was developed through a participatory multi-stakeholder process with support from UNDP and Proforest. NOPPOL was established to create nationwide multi-stakeholder commitment to formulate and monitor actions to address the root causes limiting long term sustainability of the oil palm commodity chain. The official launch of NOPSAP will happen today in Monrovia.

The Government of Liberia through its Pro-Poor Agenda for Prosperity and Development (PAPD) recognises the need to encourage economic behaviour, investment and enterprise which will underpin sustainable economic growth throughout the country.

Proforest’s work with the Ministry of Agriculture has been supported by UK Aid from the UK government via its Partnerships for Forests programme, which funds the Africa Palm Oil Initiative, a flagship initiative of the Tropical Forest Alliance which is managed by Proforest, and also via the Forest Governance, Markets and Climate programme, which funds our Production Landscape Programme.
