Hugo Chambers

Hugo specialises in addressing environmental and social issues in agricultural commodity supply chains. Prior to joining Proforest, Hugo worked at Sainsbury's - a UK retailer - for six years. There, he led the retailer's forest and land use strategy, including the development of responsible sourcing policies and reporting requirements for commodities such as palm oil, soy, and beef. He believes in effective and action-led industry collaboration as a force for progress, and has played key roles in the CGF Forest Positive Coalition and the UK Soy Manifesto.

At Sainsbury's he also coordinated a $5m USD programme to support sustainable livelihoods in smallholder tea farming communities in East Africa. He led the engagement with producer groups, and designed and implemented the programme's monitoring and evaluation framework.

He holds a BSc in Economics from University College London (UCL), where he focused on development and environmental economics. He speaks French and English, and enjoys running and travelling in his spare time.
