11th Annual Training Programme

The 11th Proforest Annual Training Programme was held in Oxford from 10-14 September 2012. The 22 participants came from 14 countries on 5 continents and from 15 different organisations, from private companies and Government agencies to NGOs.

This year the Annual Training Programme offered 2 courses: Responsible Forestry and Timber Trade which focused on the links between forest management and the changing market requirements in consumer countries and explained the Forest Law Enforcement, Governance and Trade Action Plan (FLEGT) including Voluntary Partnership Agreements (VPAs) and the upcoming EU Timber Regulation; Responsible Production and Sourcing of Agricultural Commodities which provides guidance on understanding and managing responsible supply chains. The courses consist of a 3-day module, followed by a 2-day optional module focusing on the High Conservation Value (HCV) concept and climate change issues, looking at the ways in which different initiatives, including REDD+ are currently seeking to tackle the contribution of forests to climate change.

The Proforest Annual Training Programme aims to offer up-to-date and expert training for professionals involved in sustainable management, certification or responsible purchasing of natural resources, and those interested in practical approaches to forest conservation and climate change. Proforest also runs both generic and bespoke training courses for specific audiences, sectors or clients in various countries throughout the year.
