September 28th, Convention Center, Cartegena de Indias
On Wednesday, September 28th, the first in-person meeting of the Latin American Chapter of the Palm Oil Collaboration Group (POCG) will take place at the International Conference on Palma of Oil, organised by Fedepalma.
The POCG brings together companies from all parts of the palm oil supply chain worldwide, with the aim of accelerating the implementation of NDPE commitments (No Deforestation, No development in Peatlands, No Exploitation). The broad group of actors who meet under the POCG seek to contribute to developing solutions to the sustainability challenges in this sector, based on the prioritization of strategic work areas, the deployment of collaborative actions, and the development of global initiatives to scale impact.
Initiated in Southeast Asia, a number of companies created the Latin American Chapter of the POCG in 2021. This working group focuses on a regional scope to address the sustainability challenges and opportunities for the palm oil industry in Latin America, initially prioritising Human Rights and smallholder engagement. The POCG Latin American Chapter is an initiative led by Cargill, PepsiCo, AAK and Proforest. All stakeholders across the palm oil supply chain, including NGOs and civil society organisations from the region are welcome to join.
The meeting on September 28th will be a space to discuss the progress and perspectives of the work of the POCG globally and within the Latin American chapter, as well as an opportunity for members to reconnect after a time of remote activities. The outputs from the meeting will be an important input to define the roadmap of activity for the Latin America Working Group and the POCG in 2023.
