Proforest and partners launch report on Carbon and Financial Sustainability in Soy Landscape Initiatives
Proforest, in collaboration with IPAM, PCI Institute and Produzindo Certo, launched the report ‘Leveraging Carbon Instruments for Financial Sustainability in a Soy Landscape Initiative’. The case study analyses how carbon can be used to finance strategies for more sustainable agricultural practices.
The case study is set within the Western Mato Grosso Sustainable Landscape Initiative, an initiative that promotes sustainable agriculture in six municipalities in Brazil, prioritising conservation and the inclusion of smallholders and indigenous communities.
‘This report is an important contribution to the wider conversation on landscape finance, highlighting that carbon frameworks such as SBTi and carbon credits can and should be explored to ensure financial sustainability,’ said Paulien Denis, Project Manager and Climate Coordinator at Proforest.
While broader goals such as climate adaptation, resilience, conservation, and addressing human rights issues are expected to gain momentum in the coming years, climate mitigation remains a fundamental factor in justifying company investment into ESG strategies.
