Proforest and partners promote the webinar ‘EUDR – Dry Runs for beef and soy supply chains in four Mercosur countries’

Proforest, in partnership with Solidaridad Network and the Tropical Forest Alliance (TFA), held a webinar on Wednesday, 26 March, entitled ‘EUDR – Dry Runs for Beef and Soy Supply Chains in 4 Mercosur Countries.’ The online event brought together more than 320 participants, including experts and representatives from the beef and soy sectors in Brazil, Argentina, Paraguay, and Uruguay.

During the webinar, experiences and results from EUDR implementation simulations carried out in the four Mercosur countries were shared. Similarities between solutions adopted, common challenges and opportunities for collaboration to ensure compliance were highlighted.

"The European Union recognises the sharing of regional lessons between different stakeholders based on the simulations. This is part of the EU's coordinated approach with producing countries to work on recommendations and align understanding for compliance with the EUDR," says Ana Paula Gutierrez, Head of the Bioeconomy and Sustainable Supply Chains Programme at the European Union Delegation to Brazil.

The initiative is part of the Regional Dialogues on EUDR in cooperation with Proforest, Solidaridad Network, Tropical Forest Alliance and GIZ Brazil - SAFE and AgriChains programmes. ‘I would like to thank the organisers for putting together a very rich agenda, which is very useful as concrete input for the transition to deforestation-free chains in compliance with regulations, particularly the EUDR,’ said Dr. Jorge Espinoza, SAFE Programme Manager at GIZ.

‘The initiative of inclusive dialogues, which is the hallmark of this event today, aims to promote the dissemination and exchange of knowledge and experiences – which, in our view, is a crucial contribution in the context of the transition,’ he added.

During the event, Proforest also launched two reports on the topic. The materials are available at the following links:
