Proforest elected to Bonsucro Members' Council

Bonsucro, formerly known as the Better Sugar Initiative is a multi-stakeholder organisation which aims to reduce the environmental and social impacts of sugarcane production.

The Council is the new, elected body for Bonsucro members that gives them the opportunity to directly shape how change is accelerated within the sugarcane industry. Through their representatives, members have a voice in Bonsucro's key decision-making, giving them a say on the industry issues that matter most to them.

Erin commented on her election to the Council, saying,"At Proforest, we have developed an understanding of the sugar supply chain from end-user to farm level and we know that certification can be an important mechanism as part of a larger toolkit to demonstrate responsible sourcing. However, implementation needs to be thoroughly robust. As part of the Bonsucro Members’ Council I hope to be able to support improvements needed to address effective implementation."

Alongside Erin, representatives from WWF, PepsiCo, Pernod Ricard and Nordzucker have now taken up their positions on the Council. The other positions have been carried over from the old Board of Directors.

Bonsucro's annual networking event Bonsucro Week will take place in London this year from 29 November - 2 December 2016. During this week the Members' Council will meet to set their agenda for the coming months.
