Proforest launches study about challenges and opportunities for Brazilian exporters to comply with the EUDR

With the implementation of the European Union Deforestation-Free Regulation (EUDR), companies and governments have been developing and improving systems, and simulations have been carried out during this period of adaptation.
Proforest, in partnership with five companies from the soya and cattle sectors, conducted and evaluated four of these simulations. The results of this evaluation are contained in the report ‘Exporters in Brazil and the EUDR: simulations in soya, meat and leather’, launched on Wednesday (26).
The study was carried out as part of the programme ‘Traceability, Monitoring and Transparency Systems in the Beef/Leather and Soy Chains in Brazil’, with support from GIZ (SAFE and AgriChains programmes) and the European Commission's AL-INVEST Verde.
The cases analysed were: a soy exporter based in Brazil, an operator in Europe and its supplier in Brazil, a slaughterhouse exporter and a tannery exporter, both based in Brazil. The results were presented and discussed with the companies individually and at events with representatives of the sectors, the government, civil society and the European Union Delegation, where it was possible to discuss the results of other simulations and move forward on the basis of the lessons learnt.
