Proforest announces the appointment of Taufiq Alimi as the new Executive Director, Proforest Southeast Asia.
Taufiq will be based in Proforest’s Jakarta office as he will be leading the highly skilled and fast-growing regional team, based across the Malaysia and Indonesia offices.
Taufiq has dedicated most of his career to the NGO sector, with significant involvement with government and private sector. Over the past two decades, he has held several senior leadership positions, including CEO of LEI (Indonesian Ecolabel Institute), Executive Chair of the National Forestry Council, Country Coordinator of the Clinton Climate Initiative-Forestry (under the Clinton Foundation), and most recently as Vice President (country lead) of Rare (a US-based international conservation and development organisation).
“Taufiq brings a wealth of management and sector experience to the role, with a proven track record of owning global strategies within the region, developing, and scaling strategic initiatives and partnerships on the ground, making him an excellent addition to our leadership team at both regional and global levels,” said Abraham Baffoe, Executive Director, Proforest Global and Africa. “His recent work in fisheries and oceans at Rare will add to his forestry expertise and allow him to bring in new ideas and strategies to Proforest.”
At Proforest, he will also be part of the Group Executive Board (GEB) where he will contribute to the development and delivery of global strategy including global institutional responsibilities.
“We are extremely excited that Taufiq is bringing his expertise, skills, and energies to Proforest team and mission,” said Ruth Nussbaum, Executive Director, Proforest Global and Europe. “Taufiq will be responsible for leading our Southeast Asia team to enhance Proforest’s profile and advance our mission across the region, in collaboration with our Malaysia and Indonesia Country Directors, Tor Mooi See and Langlang Tata Buana.’’
Taufiq succeeds the former regional director, Surin Suksuwan, who continues to support Proforest in a technical consulting capacity.
