Karen Vargas

Karen's background includes evaluating and disseminating Colombia's national agricultural policy to address land conflicts. She has written policy briefs, supported policy evaluations, and conducted fieldwork with peasants, Indigenous and Afro-Colombian communities. Additionally, she has conducted field research with communities in Mexico and supported human rights defenders worldwide by designing tailor-made workshops to amplify their voices and initiatives in the Netherlands.

Karen holds an MA in Development Studies from Erasmus University Rotterdam. Her academic and professional focus lies in people-centred development approaches, the promotion of social justice, human rights, and climate action. She speaks Spanish, English and has intermediate proficiency in Dutch.
