Sophie Higman, Director of Programmes at Proforest UK, has worked in the production and sourcing of agricultural commodities, forest management and international development for more than 25 years. She specialises in making sense of the complex challenges inherent in sustainable commodity production, seeking clarity and communicating ideas in simple language.

Before joining Proforest she worked in forest research and management in Honduras and Guyana, on forest and commodity sustainability certification, and on a wide range of communication and writing projects. She builds on her extensive experience with private, public and non-governmental organisations, and currently leads Proforest’s UK charity, the Proforest Initiative.

Sophie has a passion for writing and co-authored two books on the subject - Feeding the Market: South American farmers, trade and globalization and The Sustainable Forestry Handbook.
