Ekow Nyamekye Tawiah

Ekow Nyamekye Tawiah is a geospatial enthusiast with expertise in the applications of geospatial tools for the sustainable management of natural resources.

He has experience in developing spatial decision support systems to address agroecological challenges and the destruction of forest ecosystems. He was a consultant for the CHEETAH project (Chains of Human Intelligence; towards Efficiency and Equity in Agro-Food Trade along the trans-Africa Highway) in 2017. He facilitated the training of stakeholders (truck drivers, farmers, food crop traders, journalists and field officers) towards an effective mobile data crowdsourcing for addressing post-harvest losses along the Accra-Ouagadougou trade corridor. He also served as a geospatial analyst and a drone pilot for the Interministerial Committee on Illegal Mining in the Bibiani Anhwiaso Bekwai Municipal Assembly of Ghana to address illegal mining in reserved forests and the pollution of water bodies. He has expertise in training students and professionals in remote sensing and geographic information systems at the Kwame Nkruma University of Science and Technology (Geography department). His research interests focus on the application of remote sensing and geographic information systems for forest monitoring, carbon estimations and accounting. 

Ekow holds an MSc in Geo-Information Science and Earth Observation (Natural Resources) from The University of Twente and the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology. His bachelor's degree was obtained from the University of Cape Coast (Bachelor Education in Social Studies, Geography). Ekow speaks English, French and three Ghanaian languages (Fanti, Twi and Sefwi).
