Delivering company commitments to zero deforestation commodity supply chains
Deforestation associated with production of commodities including palm oil, soy, cocoa, beef and pulp and paper continues to be a global concern. In response, many supply chain companies have made commitments to eliminating deforestation from their commodity supply chains by 2020, building on the Consumer Goods Forum resolution on zero net deforestation and the New York Declaration on Forests.
Huge progress has been made but, nonetheless, rates of deforestation remain high in many locations. This briefing note examines how supply chain initiatives can expand from defining and monitoring deforestation to better supporting forest protection on the ground. It also examines the other approaches that are required in tackling deforestation, beyond commodity supply chains and commercial relationships.
This document is part of a series of briefing notes about responsible sourcing and production.
