Launching the Forest Integrity Assessment Manual

Launching the Forest Integrity Assessment Manual

The simple and user-friendly checklist approach aims to make it more accessible for smallholders and communities to address biodiversity conservation values through species inventories.

The Forest Integrity Assessment (FIA) tool is based on many years of experience and field trials in boreal, temperate and tropical forests in different parts of the world.

The methodology focuses on habitats as proxies for biodiversity rather than on the species themselves, using natural forest types and disturbance regimes little affected by large scale human activities as reference. The tool is designed for assessments of larger forest areas as well as for remnant forest patches in agricultural landscapes.
