Protecting HCVs in Landscapes

View course

This course was jointly prepared by the High Conservation Value Network (HCVN) and Proforest. It was developed as part of the Proforest Production Landscape Program (PLP) which is supported by the International Climate Initiative (IKI) of the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Nuclear Safety and Consumer Protection (BMUV).

The High Conservation Value (HCV) Approach is a three-step tool to identify, manage and monitor outstanding biological, ecological, social and cultural values in production landscapes. Before continuing, and if you are not familiar with the HCV Approach, we recommend you undertake the introductory course to HCVs available on the Proforest Academy.

This course is comprised of 3 modules covering the aspects of HCV implementation at different scales and the benefits of using the HCV Approach at the landscape level. It presents practical examples of how to integrate the HCV Approach in landscape or jurisdictional initiatives.

This course focuses on the HCV Approach, and will not cover the High Carbon Stock Approach (HCSA) in detail.

It takes approximately 2-3 hours to complete this course. In each of the modules, we provide some supplementary materials that participants are welcome to read.
