Proforest pilots the Accountability Framework initiative (AFi) with oil palm and rubber companies in Ghana

Proforest is facilitating understanding and application of the Accountability Framework among actors in government, NGOs and companies. In addition to exploring opportunities for alignment of national policy processes with the definitions, norms and guidance of the Accountability Framework in Ghana and Liberia, Proforest has benchmarked the supply chain commitments and operations of four companies in Ghana, namely Benso Oil Palm Plantation, Twifo Oil Palm Plantation, Juaben Oil Mills and the Ghana Rubber Estates Limited against the AFi core principles as part of a wider effort to understand and document how the AFi principles and operational guidance work in practice in a localised producer country context. The benchmarking involved a gap analysis through a self-assessment conducted by the companies, followed by an on-site assessment by Proforest to validate the results of the self-assessment. Proforest is currently supporting the companies to implement actions to align their commitments and operations with the Accountability Framework.
