Multi-media Graphic Designer


This is an exciting opportunity for a designer wanting to stretch themselves in a dynamic organisation, working at the forefront of responsible sourcing and production of agricultural commodities around the world. Proforest is looking for a multi-disciplined designer who can work across print and digital (web and social), to translate complex ideas, methodologies, and processes into clear visuals. With some multi-media experience, they will also support our capacity building work, editing audio and video content. You will be part of the Communications team, supporting colleagues in Europe and regional offices in Southeast Asia, Africa, and Latin America. The design and editing work spans our donor-funded programmes, client consultancy work, training, and knowledge management. This is a great role for someone with plenty of hands-on experience in design who now wants to take a lead in evolving an established brand, build on a bank of work and take initiative in developing new ways of presenting and communicating our ideas and thought leadership.

We are a not-for-profit group with a global presence across Europe, Asia, Africa and South America and work with governments, the private sector and civil society to deliver positive social and environmental outcomes in the places agricultural commodities are produced, ranging from protecting forests to recognising the land rights of indigenous peoples to improving conditions for workers.

Our clients are well-known consumer brands, such as Unilever, Nestle, PepsiCo and Mars, retailers such as Target and Ikea and the world’s largest traders and integrated producers including Cargill, Olam, Wilmar and Cofco. We combine our work for companies with longer-term programmes supported by institutional funders such as the UK’s FCDO, Germany’s IKI and GIZ, and the Global Environment Facility.

Position summary

Main responsibilities

  • Templates: Update and maintain a distinct set of Proforest templates for use across our workstreams and regions. Be the first port of call for technical staff needing help in understanding or using the templates
  • Document design: Support programme and project staff on designing publications, presentations or training decks
  • Diagrams and process design: Create strong visuals that follow the Proforest look and feel, representing technical methodology, tools or processes. These might include charts, infographics, workflow diagrams and more free hand illustration
  • Website design: Support internal comms team on design elements for new microsites, developed for clients, partners or consortia we are part of
  • Editing: Support the training team in development of engaging content for both internal and external training courses. This could include motion graphics, basic audio or video editing, subtitling
  • External network: Manage our roster of external agencies and freelancers, including briefing them on specific projects
  • Style guide: Review the Proforest style guide, manage and evolve it, particularly for new areas of online work


The following skills and experience are essential:

  • Excellent design skills in Adobe CS/CC (Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign specific)
  • Excellent MSOffice skills (creating templates in Word, PowerPoint, Excel)
  • Motion graphics and animation
  • Video and audio editing (we are currently looking at different platforms)
  • Good communication skills – you will be working with people across the organisation and need to be able to understand their requirements and translate that into an action plan
  • Working knowledge across PC and Mac
  • Understanding of data visualisation and informational design
  • Time management and work planning

Our work environment

Proforest has an amazing global team of highly motivated staff from over 20 countries working out of offices in the UK, the Netherlands, Malaysia, Indonesia, Ghana, Brazil, and Colombia. The UK office is in Oxford with a friendly work environment where colleagues work very collaboratively and also socialise outside of the office. Regular internal exchange events bring together colleagues from all the offices for learning and exchange, ensuring a strong sense of a belonging to a global team. Terms and conditions

  • Annual salary: £28k - £30k, dependent on experience
  • Permanent position based in Oxford, UK with scope to work from home part of the time
  • Full time, but we are happy to discuss some flexibility
