Mariana has over ten years’ experience in education, South-South cooperation, human rights, food security, gender mainstreaming and land grabbing. Prior to joining Proforest, she coordinated a project to map family farming among quilombolas, indigenous peoples, and women-led settled families under agrarian reform in Latin America. She lived in China for six years, where she undertook professional research for the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences and the Wuhan University Institute of International Law, regarding the limits of and possibilities for agricultural cooperation between China and Brazil and the legal framework to protect natural resources.

Mariana loves old movies, cooking, historical tours, walking and yoga. She speaks Portuguese, English, Spanish, Chinese, French and some German.
