Proforest’s Abraham Baffoe joins World Economic Forum’s Global Future Council on Forest Economy

We are proud to announce that Abraham has been appointed as a member of the World Economic Forum’s Global Future Council (GFC) on Forest Economy for the 2025-2026 term. This prestigious appointment places Abraham among a select group of global leaders and experts shaping solutions to some of the world’s most pressing environmental and economic challenges.

About the Global Future Councils

The Network of Global Future Councils is the world’s leading multistakeholder and interdisciplinary knowledge platform, bringing together approximately 700 experts from business, academia, civil society, government, and international organisations across 36 thematic councils. These councils serve as a time-bound think tank, providing critical insights into emerging and established global issues, which directly inform the World Economic Forum’s initiatives, communities, and global meetings. With a two-year term running from March 2025 to December 2026, council members will participate in various virtual and in-person engagements, contributing to collaborative thinking and solution-building across disciplines and sectors.

Focus of the Forest Economy Council

The Global Future Council on Forest Economy addresses the increasing global demand for wood products, particularly for bio-based goods and low-carbon construction materials. This surge in demand presents both opportunities and risks for the world’s forests. The Council is tasked with exploring innovative strategies to:

  • Leverage demand for wood products to drive large-scale investment in land restoration, rather than the degradation of natural forests.
  • Integrate conservation with commercial forestry to enhance forest connectivity and resilience.
  • Develop coherent landscape restoration approaches that align with climate and sustainability goals.

Opportunities and Benefits

As a Council Member, Abraham will:

  • Contribute to transformative ideas that shape global conversations on sustainable forest economies.
  • Engage in task forces and World Economic Forum initiatives, translating insights into actionable solutions.
  • Access the Forum’s extensive global platforms to share thought leadership and promote collaborative approaches to forest sustainability.

This high-level engagement offers Proforest a valuable platform to share insights and innovations from our production work, reinforcing our commitment to sustainable forest management, land restoration, and climate solutions on a global scale.
