Mapping Requirements for the Agro Brasil + Sustentável Platform
The publication Mapping Requirements for the Agro Brasil + Sustentável Platform is the result of a robust collaborative process, built on technical and strategic contributions from civil society and the private sector aimed at the continuous improvement of the Agro Brasil + Sustentável Platform (AB+S). The work was carried out the Traceability and Transparency Task Force (FT R&T) of the Brazil Climate, Forests and Agriculture Coalition by Proforest, with support from the Bezos Earth Fund (BEF), Imaflora, and Al Invest.
The publication was developed in dialogue with six other Task Forces: Forest Code, Restoration, Native Forestry, Combating Deforestation, Land Tenure, and Green Finance. This joint effort reflects the cross-cutting and interinstitutional nature of AB+S: although led by the Secretariat for Rural Development – SDR (formerly known as SDI: Secretariat for Innovation, Sustainable Development and Irrigation) of the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (MAPA), the Platform depends on the integration of data and actions from various public bodies, with particular emphasis on the Ministry of the Environment and Climate Change (MMA).
With the aim of contributing to the development and improvement of AB+S, the study mapped and analysed 40 initiatives that offer tangible benefits to producers in three key areas: compliance, market access, and financial incentives. To ensure a comprehensive assessment, these initiatives were examined against 20 compliance and best practice criteria, organised into six dimensions: environmental, social, compliance, production, responsible sourcing, and traceability. The document also provides practical recommendations to align the AB+S Platform with the needs of different stakeholders along the value chain.
The Coalition officially submitted the study in June 2025 to representatives of the Secretariat for Innovation, Sustainable Development, Irrigation and Cooperativism of the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (SDI/MAPA) — a submission well received by the ministry, signalling the tangible impact of this collective work on the Brazilian agribusiness sustainability agenda.
The Executive Director for Latin America, Isabella Freire, is a member of the Executive Group (GX) of the Brazil Climate, Forests and Agriculture Coalition, and also co-leads the Traceability and Transparency Task Force (FT R&T).
