BRIDGE workshop in Jakarta continues with stakeholder engagement and validation
Proforest recently convened a BRIDGE Initiative Mapping and Prioritisation Workshop with close partners in Indonesia. The workshop focused on two priority commodities—palm oil and timber—with the objective of identifying and validating nationally and locally led solutions to strengthen forest governance.
The session began with an introduction Anita Permatasari, Forest Governance and Trade Policy of the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO), who shared the framing and priorities of the UK FCDO’s Forest Governance Markets and Climate (FGMC) 2 programme.
Peers and partners ranging from WWF, SNV, RSPO, MSP5 (funded by FGMC), Daemeter, Solidaridad, LTKL (Sustainable District Platform), RECOFTC, WRI, Sangga Bumi Lestari, Manka and FWI; all of whom contributed valuable insights on strengthening programme implementation in Indonesia.
Together, participants worked through prioritisation, gathered feedback on the key elements of good forest governance, and discussed how existing local solutions can be strengthened, especially through partnerships with the private sector and demand-side actors.
In closing, Taufiq Alimi, Executive Director, Southeast Asia of Proforest emphasised the need for such meetings and dialogue to expand beyond a single project; efforts ultimately need to support a sector wide transition. Hence, the need for further engagements with external actors to strengthen forest governance in Indonesia.
The BRIDGE programme (Building Recognition and Integration for Deforestation Governance and Equity) is a global initiative to connect supply chain commitments with national and local action on deforestation.
It builds on Proforest’s long-standing work with government and companies to address the disconnect between demand-side requirements and production-side realities.
A central focus of BRIDGE is bringing together governments and companies to build practical, nationally led pathways for action.
This programme is currently funded by the UK FCDO’s Forest Governance Markets and Climate (FGMC).
