Collective insights on forest governance priorities
Proforest conducted the second stakeholder consultation workshop under the BRIDGE (Building Recognition and Integration for Deforestation Governance and Equity) programme to validate and prioritise local initiatives for potential support in Indonesia.
Held in August 2026, the workshop gathered representatives from WWF, GIZ, Daemeter, LTKL (Sustainable District Platform), RECOFTC, WRI, Sangga Bumi Lestari, Mandala Katalika (Manka), FSC and Indonesian Forestry Certification Cooperation (IFCC) to review the results of the initiative prioritisation process, assess their relevance, and provide feedback on the overall approach.
Participants agreed that the BRIDGE methodology provides a strong basis for identifying high-impact interventions to strengthen forest governance and support deforestation-free commodity production. The discussion concluded with several recommendations to further strengthen the analysis before finalising the initiative's menu of options.
A key recommendation from participants was the importance of grounding the final selection in current implementation realities. This includes the level of interest and commitment from private sector actors and government agencies, feasibility implementation, and opportunities for leveraging existing initiatives and partnerships.
The inputs and recommendations from the workshop will be synthesised and will inform the development of a menu of options for the palm oil and timber sectors. This menu of options will serve as the foundation for the next phase of engagement with private sector actors and government agencies, helping to identify practical and investable opportunities that align with both local priorities and stakeholder demand.
The BRIDGE programme is a global initiative to connect supply chain commitments with national and local action on deforestation.
It builds upon Proforest long-standing work with government and companies to address the disconnect between demand-side requirements and production-side realities.
A central focus of BRIDGE is bringing together governments and companies to build practical, nationally led pathways for action.
This programme is currently funded by the UK FCDO’s Forest Governance Markets and Climate (FGMC).
