Landscape-level measurement for biodiversity and nature

Landscape-level measurement for biodiversity and nature

Landscape and jurisdictional approaches foster collaboration among stakeholders within a landscape to advance shared sustainability objectives and tackle systemic challenges like deforestation, biodiversity loss, tenure insecurity and livelihood sustainability. They aim to tackle environmental or social issues concentrated in a particular landscape through integrated landscape management and monitoring to have wider positive impact.
This joint primer with ISEAL outlines three foundational approaches, identified by ISEAL’s measurement working group and based on interviews with experts and implementers, that can provide a standardised process for context-specific measures of biodiversity, and more specifically for identifying, maintaining and enhancing biodiversity and nature in landscape initiatives.
