Connections for Green and Resilient Trade: Proforest brings Brazilian and Chinese perspectives closer together

Some conversations continue well beyond the end of a visit. This was the case following Proforest China Deputy Director Jian Wan’s visit to Brazil from 8 to 12 June. A week of meetings in Brasília and São Paulo has now resulted in a resource that Proforest is pleased to share: “Connections for Green and Resilient Trade”, a publication that brings together key discussions, exchanges of information and opportunities for collaboration between Proforest and partners in Brazil.

The document captures insights from conversations with 14 stakeholders from the agribusiness sector, civil society, research institutions and the public sector – organisations that work every day to maintain and expand access to the world’s largest agricultural consumer market, while responding to sustainability requirements that are also taking shape in China.

From market insights to action

One of the publication’s central themes is how we can approach this evolving context: moving from “how do we respond to an external requirement?” to “how can we position Brazilian solutions within a Chinese agenda that is still taking shape?”. The publication translates this shift into four practical areas for collaboration, ranging from curating Brazilian messages to facilitating two-way institutional translation between the two markets. These areas will help guide the next steps of Proforest’s work in both countries.
