Transamazonica Connections, Pará
The initiative is funded by Neste and implemented by Solidaridad, and Imaflora. It is aligned with Pará state’s Sustainable Territories Platform and works closely with public authorities, including SEMAS, to support sustainable cattle production and deforestation reduction.
The Transamazonic Connections initiative proposes an alliance to reduce deforestation and promote low-carbon livestock farming in the Transamazonian region, in the state of Pará, northern Brazil. The work is the result of a partnership between Solidaridad, Imaflora and Proforest, with the support of Neste.
Proforest acted as an implementing partner in the first phase of the initiative (2022 to 2024), working mainly on mapping the priorities of local stakeholders and the importance of a space for dialogue. We are currently continuing to support the initiative as part of our work with the Consumer Goods Forum Forest Positive Coalition (FPC), as we do with all initiatives within the FPC's landscape portfolio.
The Transamazonic Connections is expected to run until 2027 and is developing a model in the municipality of Novo Repartimento,PA that can be scaled up to other municipalities where cattle farmers are mostly family-based and specialise in calf production.
With a landscape approach, its objectives include, in addition to reducing deforestation and GHG emissions, preserving biodiversity, improving the livelihoods of farming families, complying with the requirements of the Forest Code, and promoting better agricultural practices.
