Maria Paz Garcia

Maria Paz is an environmental engineer from Lima, Peru. Her professional experience focuses on climate change mitigation and adaptation, particularly through assessments of national climate commitments, GHG accounting, resilience to extreme weather events, and voluntary carbon markets. She has worked with multidisciplinary teams across Latin America and Europe on international and multilateral projects within consultancies, non-profit organisations, and research institutes.
She holds an MSc in Environmental Sciences from Wageningen University in the Netherlands. Her academic background centres on water research, taking ecological, physical, and social approaches. This has allowed her to engage with complex environmental challenges, from assessing the impacts of small-scale gold mining in the Peruvian Amazon to studying the effects of restoration measures in large European river systems.
